In its "Working for Louisiana: First on the Field" series, LSU profiled five students and alumni who are first in their fields in research and service to the state, from agriculture to energy to health. Raby was featured for FarmSmart, now FarmMind: the AI agricultural consultant his team built to put decades of LSU AgCenter research in farmers' pockets.
“Our goal is to be as good or better than the best agricultural consultants.”
The feature came the week FarmSmart, fresh off winning the J. Terrell Brown Venture Challenge, competed in the SEC Student Pitch Competition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The idea, LSU reported, began with LSU AgCenter weed scientist Daniel Stephenson, who wanted the AgCenter's annual weed-management guide to be easier for farmers to use.Raby's team included LSU engineering students Julius Pallotta and Grant Muslow.
“Colin Raby and his team’s work in developing AI-driven solutions for Louisiana farmers is an early example of how we are leveraging this emerging technology to directly contribute to the state’s economy and the well-being of its people.” — Roy Haggerty, LSU Executive Vice President and Provost
