LSU's first finalist at the Rice Business Plan Competition

FarmSmarter becomes LSU's first team in the final seven of the Rice Business Plan Competition, the world's largest student startup competition, finishing seventh.

FarmSmarter became LSU's first team to reach the final round of the Rice Business Plan Competition in Houston, the largest student startup competition in the world and the one founders call the "Super Bowl of pitch competitions."

The team won the competition's wildcard round, earning the Edward H. Molter Memorial Prize and the last spot in the finals, then finished seventh, a $5,000 prize sponsored by Shell Ventures. It also won a Company Showcase Prize at the competition's open house.FarmSmarter was also offered The OWL Investment Prize of $100,000, but declined it after reviewing the terms.

Within weeks it had also won the Pelican Cup, placed third at the Arkansas Governor's Cup and been named a top-10 finalist at Baylor's New Venture Competition.
