It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the Cadets of the Ole War Skule over the past three years as we completed the renovation and grand opening of the LSU Memorial Tower Military Museum. The extensive preparation culminated in a phenomenal opening ceremony that highlighted both the past and present impact of LSU's military heritage. The tower and plaza were restored top to bottom for the museum, which now holds the William A. Brookshire LSU Military Museum. The rededication was held April 7, 2022.

At the tower's original dedication in 1926, American Legion Commander John J. McQuigg spoke of "peace through preparedness." That remark is the charge of our university and the responsibility of all its students: to prepare to make a positive impact wherever life after LSU leads, to refute needless violence and division, and to prepare an improved path for all who follow.

The story of the military told by Memorial Tower is the story of LSU — the story of the Long Purple Line. It is here not only to inform us of our past, but to remind us of our responsibility to the work happening in the present.
