Represents LSU students on a statewide panel on the future of AI in education
One of three students chosen to represent LSU on "The Future of AI in Education" panel at the Conference of Louisiana Colleges and Universities.

ALEXANDRIA, La. · Colin Raby was one of three students selected to represent LSU at the annual Conference of Louisiana Colleges and Universities, held April 12, 2024, at LSU of Alexandria. This year's theme was artificial intelligence, and Raby sat on a student panel with students from across the state on "The Future of AI in Education": how traditional educational systems should approach, use and adapt to an AI-powered world. The conference also heard from Commissioner Reed and Dr. Andrew Schwarz on the policy and technical sides of AI in education. Raby thanked LSU Provost Haggerty for the opportunity.
Afterward, he wrote:
The conference was a fertile ground for competing opinions, which reinforced my conviction that the best path forward is embracing AI to equip our students for the technological future. Just like during the invention of the car, the creation of personal computers, and the emergence of the internet, AI can supercharge the capabilities of those who learn to use it well, and we should have systems that encourage our students to utilize it for maximal impact.
To keep education relevant in a world of increasingly capable AI, he argued, schools should focus on three things:
- Building the skills to critically evaluate content.
- Rewarding good questions, not just answers to the questions students are asked.
- Experiential learning: partnering with industry, using AI for immersive learning, and offering the experiences an expert AI chatbot can't.
Looking forward, the thoughtful integration of AI in education not only promises to enhance learning environments but also equips our students to lead and innovate. From Raby's post on Instagram, April 30, 2024.
